St. Ciaran’s School first opened in 1981 with a teaching staff of two teachers. Since then the staff and enrolment grew year on year to its present levels. The school has had two extensions since its foundation the most recent being the development of the new west wing comprising our sports hall, special Educational Needs unit and two classrooms. The school now comprises 26 classrooms, 7 special needs rooms, computer room, sports hall and two gardens.

The first principal of the school was Mr. Aeneas Lane 1981 – 2004. The present Principal is Mr. Sean Sheehan. The school got its name from the catholic saint Ciarán who founded a monastery at Clonmacnois in Co. Offaly. The name was chosen by Fr. Liam Hickey, former parish priest of Hartstown.

The school has seen many important visitors visit the school most notably President Mary Mc Aleese who launched the programme for our 25 years celebration in January 2007.

Our school was proud and honoured to host a visit of Her Majesty Queen Paola of Belgium in October 2007.
